According to a report that was published on Tuesday by WaBetaInfo, the instant messaging app is currently working on a new version that would automatically expire groups in order to save space.
This is being done in an effort to improve the user experience.
What is Expiring Group Feature
The latest update brings the version to 23.5.0.71, and with it comes a whole new feature known as expiring groups. This feature will enable users to assign a date of expiration to the groups they belong to.
According to the WhatsApp news tracker, users will receive a reminder to clean up the group once the day in question arrives.
Nevertheless, the update is still in the process of being developed and is not still ready to be made available to anybody who volunteers to test it.
With a subsequent version, the option will become accessible within the group info section.
According to WaBetaInfo, “Users will be in a position to choose from a variety of expiration options, such as the one day, one week, or a custom date, when the feature is released, and people will also have the ability to remove an expiration that they had previously set, in case they change their mind about whether or not they want to use it”.
Users will be given the option to apply this feature, but it will have no effect on the other people who are a part of the group they are a part of.
It is anticipated that this function will provide a solution to the problem in which groups have a tendency to become irrelevant over time after being founded momentarily for birthday events or for the purpose of sharing images of a particular occasion.
This will free up some storage space within the app.
