Tech lovers have been waiting for the launch of 3G and 4G from years in Pakistan. The wait is now about to over as the Government of Pakistan is making all of its effort to bring the new operator in the auction of 3G which is expected to take place in the next few months.

The Chairman of IT & Technology, Dr. Ismail Shah, the IT minister, Anush Rehman and the officials of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority are visiting in European and Middle East markets for arranging road shows of much awaited 3G technology in Pakistan.
The IT and Technology minister of Pakistan, anusha Rehman Visited Qatar to invite the Qatar’s telecom operator for participate in the 3G license auction in Pakistan. Dr. Ismail Shah also visited Saudi Arabia in order to purse the Saudi telecom operators and regulator for taking part in the next generation telecom services auction in Pakistan.
According to the Arab News, Dr. Ismail Shah is planning to launch 1500Mhz 4G license and 2100 Mhz 3g licenses in the auction which is expected in the few months.
The foreign investors showed their interest in 1800 Mhz 4G license which is a pretty rich spectrum for LTE placement, making an attractive opportunity for the investors to capture the untapped Pakistan’s broadband market.
In a meeting of Abdulaziz A. Alsugair, the chairman of Saudi Telecom Board, with Dr. Shah; special interest has been shown by the Saudi counterpart who acknowledges the opportunities in the broadband market.
Currently, the broadband penetration in Pakistan is less than 2 percent which becomes almost three million subscribers. Experts believe that by launching 3G and 4G network the number of subscribers will increase within a period of three years from 3 million to 20 million which will double the revenue of the largest telecom operator by the end of 2018.
The next generation license will be auctioned during March-April 2014. In order to pursue the international telecom operator, Dr. Ismail and Anusha Rehman plans to visit UK and Turkey in this week.
The Government of Pakistan is planning to maximize the money generated through the auction by including foreign operators in the auction.
