Before a couple of months, there was a lot of buzz on the newspaper and social media about the arrival of 3G technology in Pakistan. Finally, the wait is over now! Mobile phone operators will be given 3G license for three months testing and later the actual auction for the license will take place. This recent development surely confirms that the much awaited technology will be available for the people just after the completion of test period.
The Chairman of PTA, Dr. Ismail Shah, confirmed while speaking with “The News” officials that a limited permission to the mobile phone operators will be provided by Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) in order to gauge the potential challenges that may arise before providing services to the users. This is a good step which will enable the mobile phone operators to know the areas of deficiency and improvement in their equipment before the actual launch.
The launch of third generation technology will benefit a lot to the users as it offers higher data transfer rate, more flexibility and enables to use the bandwidth of mobile phone efficiently.

After getting the limited permission, the mobile phone operators may select their employees or premium customers to testify the 3G services. However, the commercial use will start after the license auction and it is expected that the auction of 3G license will be done by PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) till the end of March 2014.
